Bo “Come”

Exodus 10:1 - 13:16

God sends the 8th and 9th plagues, locusts and darkness, but Pharaoh still refuses to let the Israelites leave his country. God reveals to Moses that the 10th plague will be the killing all of the firstborn to the Egyptians. We see God command each Israelite home to slaughter a lamb and spread the blood of the lamb on their doorposts, in order to protect their own firstborn children…

Isn’t it beautiful that we see the blood saved the people back then and, we have Jesus/Yeshua blood that saves us today! Jesus is our ultimate lamb.

God instructs Moses to go again to Pharaoh (whose heart is still hardened), so God can display the signs which will enable the future generations to recognize who this person is and that He is Our God. He will be known as The God who brought His people out of Egypt.

Pharaoh finally relinquishes and tells Moses, “go and take your people, but do not take any livestock”. Moses tells Pharaoh that ALL must go including the livestock. God hardens Pharaoh’s heart once again. We see the plague of the firstborn soon unravel. God promises that no firstborn child will die, if they heed and follow God’s instructions on slaughtering a lamb and applying the blood to their doorposts of their homes.

The women didn’t have time to allow the yeast to rise, therefore they feasted on roasted lamb, unleavened bread (no yeast) and bitter herbs. This time marks the Feast known as “Feast of Unleavened Bread”. “God wants every Jew to remember and retell the story of how God brought the Hebrew slaves out of bondage in Egypt.” This is a huge celebration and time of reflection for our Jewish brethren.

The Israelites hurried from the land, carrying the unleavened dough before it could rise. We now see what the Passover offering is about. God wants His people to remember this day as a covenant between He and His people and how He freed them from the bonds of slavery in Egypt. After the death of the firstborns, Pharaoh demands that the Israelites and Moses leave!
