Tzav “Command”

Leviticus 6:1-8:36

Last week, we learned all about connecting with God by building that relationship and giving back to Him, through offerings & sacrifices. I think we can all agree, the sacrifices & offerings back then definitely look different for us today; however, the principle and God’s perfect plan is the same.

We start this reading with God giving Moses instructions on how to handle someone that deceives a friend, lies and denies the accusations. Even back then, the person was expected to not only pay back what he took, but add a portion on to it. In other words, bless his neighbor with more than was taken. But it doesn’t stop there. He must make an offering with a ram “a perfect ram” no blemish or an equivalent. Can you imagine if society somewhat held to this standard today. I think crimes would come down. We have to keep in mind, God wanted His people to live in order and exactly as He instructed. I don’t think He expected them to be perfect; however, I believe God wanted them set apart for His glory. God was going to make sure they understood right from wrong, how to treat others and what was expected of them.

God continues to describe the different laws of sacrifices. He makes a distinction between the different offerings. We see God giving instructions to the priests that ordains them in their positions.

We also read about a new offering called a “Korban Todah” A thanksgiving offering. Maybe a family member had been sick for a while and got well, or maybe a neighbor had been on a long trip and returned home safely. They would bring a “Korban todah” a thanksgiving offering and offer Thanks to the Lord for the blessings. The concept of giving thanks is important to us today and we come to understand it is also central in our relationship with God.

Today, as I read about the different offerings explained to a group of people that were living in the middle of the desert, it makes me think, “what am I offering to God today”? What are some rituals that we do today? I would like to encourage you to think about that through out the week. I promise it will strengthen your relationship with God and show you how to be set apart unto Him.

Hi Ya’ll! In case we haven’t met, my name is Deena. My hubby is the Pastor with Two Branch Ministry. I enjoy digging in and learning how God intends for me to be a better daughter of the King, a better wife, a better momma, sister and friend! I am not perfect at all….I struggle in my daily walk, I struggle with laying things out of my control at the foot of the cross, I struggle with the flesh. He knows I am not perfect, and He gives me the tools to push through and rely on Him for everything. I promise you this, reading His Word, growing and learning more about Him, will truly change your life and you will be amazed everyday how wonderful our God is and you will want to learn as much as you can about Him!

Blessings & Shalom ~ Deena
